Jacob Abbott - Performing Arts Director
Jacob Abbott is the current Performing Arts Director at Dresden High School, actively teaching General Music, Vocal Music, Modern Band, and Concert Band. A graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, he participated in marching, concert, symphonic, and jazz band as well as all percussion ensembles including Jamaica Me Happy, the auditioned steel pan group.
Jacob has taught in the Gibson and Weakley County School Systems over the past 15 years in the classroom and private lesson settings as well as a special staff member for 6 different marching band programs. In the fall of 2020, he was voted Teacher of the Year for Dresden High School. Jacob was named to the Yamaha “40 Under 40” class of 2025, a nationwide list which honors music educators who demonstrate action, courage, creativity, and growth in their music programs. He is also an active member of the National Association for Music Education, Tennessee Music Education Association, West Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, and an alumni member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Sigma Psi chapter.
Jacob is married to Rachel, a biology teacher at Peabody High School. Together, they have three children: Jaxon, Chandler, and Mason, as well as three dogs: Izzie, Hank, and Willa. When not teaching, he enjoys driving his Jeep Wrangler both on and off road as much as possible.
