Tennesse Promise Scholarship
Award Information
Award amount varies based on amount of remaining tuition and mandatory fees after all other gift aid has been applied.
Eligibility
To be eligible, students must:
Be a Tennessee resident
Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
Complete the Tennessee Promise application by November 3 and complete the FAFSA by April 1 of the high school senior year
Graduate from a TN high school, bordering high school, or home school. A student is also eligible by earning a high school equivalency credential approved by the state board of education, e.g. – GED, HiSET, or New Pathways, prior to the 19th birthday
Attend a mandatory Tennessee Promise meeting
Complete and submit at least 16 hours of community service for each year in the program
The student must be continuously enrolled at an eligible postsecondary institution in the fall and spring semesters, if enrolled at a community college or eligible four-year institution OR maintain continuous enrollment as determined by the TN College of Applied Technology.
Students must also maintain a 2.0 GPA at the end of each academic year while enrolled at a community college or eligible four-year institution OR maintain satisfactory academic progress at a TN College of Applied Technology.
Tennessee Hope Scholarship (Lottery):
Award Information
Four-Year Institutions and two-year institutions with on-campus housing:
Up to $2,250 per full-time enrollment semester as a freshman and sophomore; then up to $2,850 per full-time enrollment semester as a junior and senior
Two-Year Institutions:
Up to $1,600 per full-time enrollment semester as a freshman and sophomore
Eligibility
Apply by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available at www.fafsa.gov. Early application is recommended.
ENTERING FRESHMEN
• Be a Tennessee resident as classified by the Tennessee Board of Regents;
• Graduate from an eligible high school in Tennessee;
• Enroll in one of the Tennessee public colleges, universities, or private colleges.
• Entering freshmen must achieve a minimum:
21 ACT or a minimum of 1060 SAT, exclusive of the essay and optional subject area battery tests (concordant equivalent score) OR
Overall minimum 3.0 grade point average based on a 4.0 scale, calculated with additional internal quality points awarded for advanced placement, honors or other similar courses according to the Uniform Grading Policy adopted by the State Board of Education.
Tennessee STEP UP Scholarship
To be eligible, the applicant must:
Not be ineligible for the scholarship under § 49-4-904
Have been a Tennessee resident as classified by the Tennessee Board of Regents
Complete high school in a Tennessee high school in accordance with the requirements of the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and receive a high school diploma, occupational diploma or certificate, a special education diploma, a transition certificate, or an IEP certificate
Be admitted to and enroll in an eligible postsecondary institution in an eligible postsecondary program no later than 16 months after completing high school
