DHS Health Science students collaborated with DES to host a Stuffed Animal Clinic for first-grade students. The DHS students are enrolled in either Clinical Internship or Medical Therapeutics, where each group is focusing on attaining their Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA). Juniors and Seniors in the program are gaining knowledge and valuable skills to prepare them for taking their CCMA test. When presented with the opportunity to provide this activity for the elementary students, the high schoolers quickly began planning. Health Science students planned to give each child's stuffed animal a quick check-up and health certificate. This opportunity allowed health science students to gain valuable pediatric communication skills while practicing their CCMA clinical skills. Assessing vital signs and checking length and weight were a few of the clinical skills that teddy bears, dinosaurs, superheroes, snakes, and even a rooster received to ensure that each stuffed animal was in superb condition!
